These rides are welcoming, social, no drop, relaxed, and perfect for the commuter curious.  What better joy than finding yourself on a bike in the sunshine?  Our goal is to create a new Third Place for cyclists in the territory.

      So what's a Third Place?

A third place is a welcoming, informal public space outside of home and work where people can comfortably gather, connect, and spend time without pressure to buy or belong. For cycling commuters, these can be cafés, parks, or other community spots along a route that offer a place to pause, meet others, and feel part of a shared urban life, turning a daily ride into something more social, human, and enjoyable.

So come join us on at 6:30 pm for a ride. The $2 suggested donation covers your insurance for the ride duration or you can purchase a Cycling Association of Yukon Community Membership ($40) and that covers you for the year along with many other CAY programs. *Or you can just join for free and enjoy time on the bike!*

Join us again this year as we ride in memory of Joe Morrison - a husband, a father, a teacher, a friend, and a valued member of our community - who lost his life two years ago while commuting by bicycle.

Together, we will remember Joe and reimagine safe and inclusive active transportation. Like previous years, this will be a calm, peaceful, and respectful ride. The pace will be slow to ensure all ages and abilities can take part with an emphasis on safety.

      Date: Thursday June 18, 2026

Time: Gather at 7:00 pm, ride starts at 7:30 pm

Place: Holy Family School, where Joe worked as a teacher

Route: Holy Family School to Canada Games Center via Wann Road, Alaska Highway, and Hamilton Blvd. multi-use trail

Safety remains the highest priority. With the amazing support of Highways & Public Works – Transportation Maintenance Branch, the Alaska Highway will be temporarily closed to motor vehicle traffic for the duration of the ride. A brief safety and logistics overview will be provided before departure. A pilot and a sweep vehicle will escort our group.

Help us spread the word - let’s gather as a community to support safe, inclusive transportation for everyone. Wear a helmet and dress for the weather.

      Description

Known colloquially as the “amuse bouche” of Yukon Gravel cycling events, the Gritty COG represents the most unique inter-generational bike riding and racing format on planet earth. COG stands for Clash of Generations and it’s designed to settle the age-old question, “Which is the superior cycling demographic?” Is it the older, crusty collection of geriatric gear-grinders? Or the young, insufferably optimistic and bright-eyed, as yet ripened pedal-pushers?

Using a proprietary algorithm that even the likes of Elon Zuckerman can’t crack, Velonorth will determine which age category will take home the coveted, Picasso-inspired Gritty COG trophy.

The Short Course (40km) route includes Copper Haul Road, a selection of the finest ski trails through Mt. MacIntyre – including sections of the 10k, Sewyns, Copper – and some short sections of flowy single track.

The Long Course (65km) route adds a relaxing jaunt up to Fish Lake and back on Fish Lake Road before rejoining the Short Course route through Mt. MacIntyre.

Suitable bike: Whatever you have. Gravel bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, fat bikes. No matter what kind of bike you ride, at some points it’ll be the exact right kind, at others, it’ll definitely be all kinds of wrong.

Keep an eye on the web, Facebook, Instagram @velonorthyukon and Strava for registration and further event details.

      Description

Join the Whitehorse Urban Cycling Coalition and the Cycling Association of Yukon for our monthly Thursday Slow Rides.

These rides are welcoming, social, no drop, relaxed, and perfect for the commuter curious.  What better joy than finding yourself on a bike in the sunshine?  Our goal is to create a new Third Place for cyclists in the territory

Our monthly rides will be posted through events on Facebook, the dates are:

      Thursday, April 30th - Start/End Woodcutter's Bar at 6:30 pm

Thursday, May 28th - Start Canada Games Centre at 6:30 pm / End The Ridge Pub at 8:30 pm

Thursday, June 25th - Start at Whiskey Jack's at 6:30 pm / End at Whiskey Jack's at 8:30 pm (Porter Creek, Crestview)

        Description

**EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO LOW REGISTRATION NUMBERS**

Welcome to HopOn! Terra Riders and Cycling Association of Yukon are pleased to offer HopOn Bridge programming this fall.

What is HopOn? HopOn is a games-based program meant to introduce kids to cycling in a fun, safe, and engaging environment with NCCP-trained coaches. Learn more at www.hoponcanada.ca.

HopOn Bridge Programming is intended to be the next step in your cycling journey: Take your confidence and use it to build skills in specific disciplines like mountain biking, road cycling, or BMX.

This program will run Wednesdays throughout September for 4 weeks (Sept 17th, Sept 24th, Oct 1st, Oct 8th) from 3:40 - 5:00 pm each day. Participants in the program will meet at the bottom of Grey Mountain Road (in the parking lot) to begin their lessons.

IMPORTANT: Participants in this program should be 10 - 14 years old and approximately in the Intermediate level of skill.

        Register Now

        What your participant needs:

They will need their own bike with front suspension, two working brakes and a fully functioning drivetrain along with a well-fitting, good quality helmet. Although optional, we strongly recommend knee and elbow pads as even a minor injury to these areas can take them off the bike for a day or two.

        Fitness Expectations:

These programs are not aimed at getting your child fit enough to ride a bike, although a by-product of the week is a growth in fitness. Participants should be of a reasonable fitness level to undertake a week of physical activity and mentally prepared to push themselves physically.

        Skills expectations:

Beginner: Have basic experience with mountain biking or road cycling, Must be able to ride standing up while rolling and pedaling. Expect to learn the fundamental skills of bike control while beginning to apply them to the trail and bike skills parks.

Intermediate: Already a confident rider, able to ride single track trails up to a blue level and approaching easier black trails. Expect to take your fundamental skills to a higher level while beginning to tackle high speed cornering and getting your wheels further off the ground small drops and jumps.

Advanced: Confident riding black trails at speed and approaching or already riding double black trails. Expect coaching in high speed cornering, jumps and drops. Steep and difficult terrain will be tackled on advanced camps.

***If you are unsure, please confirm your child's level by watching the video HERE***

The program is led by Daniel Sams and the Terra Riders coaching crew, NCCP certified HopOn-trained instructors with additional PMBIA qualifications.

Registration cost: $80 + Cycling Association of Yukon Community (Non-competitive) membership ($40)

Probably the gnarliest sector of "gravel", Rollercoaster will lead you to Peewee Hill. From there, we'll connect you to Charburn Lake Rd. for some honest gravel action before returning up Grey Mountain Rd. to the exchange. LEG 1 ROUTE MAP.

          Description

Yukon Fat Tire Fever is a new style of cross-country mountain bike event.

Instead of riders being timed from start to finish, we time just a few sections of the route. Whomever has the fastest combined time on both uphills and downhills wins, but above all we want everyone to simply participate and have fun!

This is not an "enduro" race although the format is similar to enduro racing.

Hardened riders will take on the entire 60 km route themselves.

For those looking for some friendly competition and a memorable experience, Yukon Fat Tire Fever also has a 2-person team category. Each person will ride 30 km (half of the route).

          Land acknowledgement

We acknowledge, honour and give thanks that we are able to host Yukon Fat Tire Fever on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council.

Keep up on the latest photos and videos by following Yukon Fat Tire Fever on Instagram.

          Solo category

Participants in the solo category will ride 1 lap (60 km) of the route by themselves. You must complete a full lap to get a result.

          Two-person teams

As a two-person team, each rider is required to complete 30 km of the 60 km route. Only one of the two riders will be on the course at a time, meaning you won't ride it together. Instead, you complete them as a relay.

You will not be able to start the next half of the course until your teammate has completed the previous section. At the designated transfer point, your team chip has to be handed off to the next rider.

Each rider will have a timed uphill and downhill section in their half.

When you check in and pick up your bike plate on the morning of August 10, let us know who is riding which half.

          View the event route

          Timing chips

Each solo rider will get their own timing chip to carry from start to finish.

Each team will have one timing chip that must be passed from rider to rider at the start of the next section. Team riders will not be allowed to start the next section until their teammate has completed the previous.

Don't lose your timing chip or forget to transfer it. Teams that finish the event without their timing chip will be disqualified and their team will be charged a lost timing chip fee of $150.

          Bike choice

Solo riders must use the same bike, start to finish. A similar rule applies to two-person teams, with each person riding their half on their own bike.

There can be no switching of parts, or modifying of parts during the event to optimize uphill or downhill radicalness.

Choose your bike wisely! A bike that climbs efficiently, descends with precision and can handle a high-speed beat down will be ideal.

          History

The name Fat Tire Fever comes from a mountain bike race held annually in Whitehorse during the late 1980s. The original Fat Tire Fever race was organized by Jack MacNeil and Bill Parry every August.

In fact, part of our event route is on the original Fat Tire Fever race course; a sweet high-five to this legacy.

The Yukon has a long and storied history of relay events, in which multiple people form a team and ride portions of a route. The biggest of them all is the KCIBR, now in its 26th year.

Previous mountain bike specific relay events included Mad to the Max and 24 Hours of Light in Whitehorse, and the Golden Loop Relay in Dawson.

Is gravel riding just 90’s mountain biking? Sure, why not!

Bring your purple anodized Onza bar ends, helmet covers, toe clips and chromo bike to the 7th annual Gravel Growler/1st annual Yukon Gravel Championships.

Since houses are no longer $55,000 like they were in the 90s (no research was done whatsoever to determine this number), the race planning committee decided to provide two races for the price of one! And if you’re a Velonorth member, that price is FREE.

While we are on the topic of free, all riders get a free schnitzel and beer. What could be better? $55,000 housing? Well, aside from that. Nothing? We thought so too.

            • Junior (ages 6 to 12 years old) race goes at 1:30 pm. Pre-ride at 1:15 pm. 1-3 laps of a less than 2 km course (# of laps determined by age).

Parts of the course will be open for several days before the event and we encourage riders to come check it out and ride it if possible.

No special bike is required. A standard mountain bike will do the trick. A road bike with tires narrower than 30mm is not recommended. Or, that fancy new gravel bike you bought last Spring...yeah, this is perfect course for that.

There will be short sections of the course where riders will need to push their bike to get over small obstacles or up short hills.

The course will include a mix of terrain including sand, hardpacked dirt, pavement, grass, wood chips, gravel.

            What's it about?

For the past century, our society has grappled with the unintended consequences of a car-centric culture.

Follow the lives of six individuals from diverse backgrounds who have devoted themselves to a simple, age-old machine - the bicycle. Through their struggles and challenges, witness how bicycles have the potential to transform lives and contribute to a better world.

Thanks to support from City of Whitehorse

The screening of this film can happen due to the generous support of the Environmental Grant.

            Description

On April 8, the Inuvik Cycling Club is hosting the 3rd Annual Matt’s Aklavik Icebreaker.

Matt's Aklavik Icebreaker is a supported 120km group bicycle ride from Inuvik to the remote community of Aklavik on the ice road for mental health awareness.

Riders will cycle on Mackenzie Delta river network with spectacular views of the Richardson Mountains along the way. Pictures don’t do this ride justice–you have to experience the environment firsthand.

Prior to departure, mental health professionals from various community organizations will talk about mental health and highlight available resources for those in need.

Together we will work toward ending negative stereotypes associated with mental illness, let everybody know that ‘it’s ok to not feel ok,’ and communicate where people can access support.

The event is named after former ICC member Matt Hamilton, who originally conceived the idea of organizing a group ride to Aklavik. Tragically, Matt died February of 2021.

Studded tires and helmet are mandatory.
